Enjoy golf at The Club at Ibis’ three Nicklaus family-designed golf courses

Golf

The Club at Ibis is known for many things: its award-winning Mediterranean-style clubhouse, network of scenic nature trails, superb dining venues, top-quality lifestyle amenities, and easy access to beaches and vibrant cultural opportunities.

The crown jewels of the private club community however, are its three outstanding golf courses, which are known for offering the finest golfing experience throughout the Palm Beaches. The Club at Ibis holds the distinction of being the only country club community that’s home to three Nicklaus family-designed golf courses, providing an exceptional playing experience unlike any other.

With three picturesque and meticulously maintained 18-hole championship golf courses combined with a 20-acre practice facility and other incredible amenities, there’s no better place to be for avid golf enthusiasts. Ready to hit the fairways and greens? Here’s a closer look at the three Nicklaus family-designed golf courses you can find at The Club at Ibis:

The Legend Course

The Legend Course is the very course which Jack Nicklaus himself considers his “masterpiece” – a prestigious acclaim given the wide array of other award-winning Jack Nicklaus signature courses throughout the world.

The course was recently renovated in 2017 in order to modernize it for all players. It features 7,228 yards from the longest tees for a par 72 and a slope rating of 134. The favorite course of many West Palm Beach golfers, the Legend is also used by professionals in tournaments such as the LPGA Office Depot Tournament and The National Senior Club Professional Championship. The course was named by Golfweek Magazine as one of the “Most Distinctive Courses” in the U.S.

Those who are familiar with Jack Nicklaus-designed courses are well-aware that they typically lean towards angled greens and risk-reward hole placements requiring a strategic approach. The Legend is no exception – while the bunkers are as large as they appear on the course map, land a shot on the fairway and you’ll be swinging off turf which others only dream about playing on one day.

The Heritage Course

Opened in 1991, the Jack Nicklaus II-designed Heritage Course is known as a friendly course that’s also designed to challenge the skills of players of all levels. One of its unique design features is that each hole comes with a set of five tee boxes, allowing players to adjust the level of challenge best suited for their playing style and experience. The 18-hole course’s multiple tee setup makes it an ideal course for families looking forward to a competitive yet enjoyable round of golf.

The Heritage was included in Golf Digest’s list of “Top 20 New Private Courses in America” upon its opening, and was named the “Most Woman-Friendly Course in America” by Golf for Women Magazine. While it has a reputation for being a novice-friendly course, it’s not exactly a cakewalk by any means. Its long bunkers and water hazards require a level of precision that can test even seasoned golfers, which makes it a fun course that has just the right amount of challenge.

The Heritage Course is a par 72, playing to 7,062 yards from the back tees and 5,177 yards from the forward tees. Its shortest hole is the 11th, a par 3 that’s 161 yards from the back tees, and its longest is the 12th, which is a par 5 that plays to 550 yards.

The Tradition Course

Last but not least is the Tradition Course, the newest of the three Nicklaus family courses at The Club at Ibis. Completed in 2001 and designed by Steve Nicklaus, the Tradition takes inspiration from some of the game’s classic, original layouts with open fairways, tight greens, and Scottish brogues, giving it an old world flavor. This charming links-style course captures the tradition of the legendary fairways of the British Isles, complete with nine “outward” holes and nine “inward” holes back to the clubhouse.

Compared to the other Club at Ibis courses, the Tradition has fewer mounds and bunkers. Players however, need to execute each tee shot and approach perfectly into some very undulated greens. The 18th hole – a challenging par 4 dogleg that plays over a serene lake – is a favorite among players.
