There exists practically no limit to the things one can do around the West Palm Beach area. While it is known to be one of the more expensive places to live in, one need not spend much to enjoy what the place has to offer.

Thanks to its tropical climate and proximity to natural wonders away from, approaching, on, and beyond the coastline, the only limiting factors to experiencing the area’s most genuine offerings are one’s curiosity and lust for life. Visitors looking to make the most of their time here, new residents listing places of interest to tick off, or prospective homebuyers scouting the location will all find this list of four local highlights a handy guide to experiencing the city on a deeper level.

  1. Grassy Waters Nature Preserve

A mere seven minutes from The Club at Ibis via Northlake Blvd. is the entrance to the Grassy Waters Nature Preserve, a state-protected wetland abundant in flora and fauna within the Greater Everglades Watershed. It is a world-renowned birding hotspot whose most famous avian residents include the ever-iconic bald eagle, endangered species such as the snail kite, and the white ibis. The wildlife sanctuary also offers scenic hiking trails for all levels, and multiple areas in the swamp are open to kayak and canoe cruises. Kids can even join in on the adventure with family hikes, and for less physically demanding visits, guided tours on the boardwalk are on offer at little to no cost. All activities are plotted on their calendar for guests to book and plan accordingly.

  2. Clematis by Night

Half an hour’s drive from the Ibis Golf and Country Club community is Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach. The Palm Stage on the Great Lawn hosts Clematis by Night, a weekly concert series organized by the city every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Now a well-sustained community tradition, the event has been giving life to what would otherwise be slow Thursday nights at Clematis for nearly three decades. It features live musical performances delivered by local, regional, and national bands with genres that include country, rock, R&B, reggae, blues, soul, and Latin. Here, locals and visitors can experience a laid-back weeknight of entertainment with the cool coastal breeze.

  3. West Palm Beach GreenMarket

Further down on South Clematis St. is the award-winning West Palm Beach GreenMarket open every weekend from October to May. The farmers’ market is the brainchild of former Mayor Nancy Graham who, inspired by European public markets, carved a similar space in downtown West Palm Beach. The GreenMarket – which began around 30 years ago with 13 vendors – now features more than a hundred vendors that peddle goods such as produce from nearby farms, food from high-quality local businesses, artisanal handmade crafts, and exotic flowers. Just taking a gander at the variety of available goods while taking in all the sights and sounds is an experience in itself. Patrons and visitors flock to the place not just to buy groceries but also to talk with the vendors and see friends and neighbors. The place has further leaned into the charms of an intimate public space by recently adding shaded seating areas, hiring local musicians to perform, and offering kids’ activities for free. The West Palm Beach GreenMarket has garnered dozens of awards throughout its lifetime, most notably “Best Farmers Market in the United States” by USA Today, a title it has kept since 2021.

  4. Palm Beach Lake Trail

Just across Royal Park Bridge from the downtown area is the Palm Beach Lake Trail. This 5.5-mile biking trail offers a scenic view of the western edge of Palm Beach. Heading northward, bikers are treated to a view of the West Palm Beach skyline and Lake Worth Lagoon’s waters to the left, while to the right one can catch glimpses of the island’s most opulent homes and their backyards. A few historical houses, the Flagler Museum, Sea Gull Cottage, and a gigantic kapok tree with prominent buttress roots serve as landmarks before the trail ends at the Sailfish Club of Florida.

The Ibis lifestyle owes most of its charm to the accessibility and diversity of activities and attractions around West Palm Beach. While residents and visitors alike can choose from various attractions outside of this list, their themes can be similar. From its lively but intimate downtown area to its destinations for more adventurous folk, there is much to explore in the City of West Palm Beach beyond the coastline it’s named after.
